Sedimentological characteristics and their relationship with landsliding in the Bhilangana Basin, Garhwal Himalaya, India

Every year during the Indian Summer Monsoon, large landslides occur in Lesser and Greater Himalayan rock formations, triggered by intense rainfall episodes coupled with physiography anthropogenic activities. The present study investigates slope failure mechanism's relationship material compositions. Hence, sediment samples of 25 were collected along road corridors. These from ranges formations. was active to understand particle size, clay content, moisture mineral composition, crystallographic structures, influence geomorphic processes on landslide processes. analyzed using a sieve, X-ray Diffractometry (XRD), Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) accomplish study's objectives. analysis indicates that meta-sedimentary formations have high composition fine medium-size particles, lesser quartz compositions calcite, highly crushed fractured presence, conchoidal fractures types morphological features. Micrographs obtained schist phyllite origin shows sheared crushing, crystal overgrowth; and, turn, higher susceptibility landslides. between materials instability has shown definite pattern area. debris flow slump comparatively percentage silt compared fall, slide, rockfall. size slip zone is significantly related helpful understanding mechanism.
